Stephen Lay talks about the Special Events Committee at the university, their responsibilities, and past speakers including General Moreland, Betty Williams, and George Sheehan. Dean Dodder, assistant professor of journalism and head of the committee, talks about the planning events for the year, charging admissions for all the events, people being able to buy season tickets, reserved seating, some other events without an admission charge, a visit from the Smithsonian Institute, an exhibit at the museum of the Inuit exhibit that took place earlier in Washington, D.C., and bringing in people with a national reputation to create an atmosphere of intellectual ferment on the campus.
