Suzanne Summerville, associate professor of music and director of the Honors Program, talks about meeting the special needs of the best and the brightest the state has to offer, being primarily for outstanding freshman from Alaska and outside, working as an important recruiting tool, committing to provide a program of broad based education for high school graduates as a land-grant institute, giving outstanding students an academic environment which is suitable for their high capabilities, geared to freshman students, course offerings, offering a greater depth of material and being more demanding, designated as graduates with honors at the end of their four years if they maintain their averages, increasing student's opportunities for graduate school, entry requirements into the honors program and starting the program in the fall of 1983.
