Carla Kirts talks about seeing the announcement for her position at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, envisioning taking a traditional position in a department instead of starting up a program in agricultural education, developing a program, aspects of agriculture other than just farming, aspects of the position, developing an agricultural education program which will eventually have a B.S. program, working within the School of Natural Resources and teaching a couple of courses, working with the high school and postsecondary teachers throughout the state, a community college in the state developing an associate's degree in agriculture, students having the option to stay in Alaska for their four year degree if the UAF program is developed, tailoring the new program for Alaska and not basing it on other states and developing the program based on Alaska's needs.
