Louis Rey talks about the history of the Arctic, concerns for future development of the region, young ecosystems in the north, northern lands experiencing successions of glaciation interspersed with warmer periods, discovery and exploration of the Arctic regions, discovery for the sake of scientific research in the 19th century, continued interest in the Arctic such as the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline, human settlements in a vast region, potential of the resources and the difficulties of the environment where the resources exist, responsible use and a delicate balance, and using a multi-disciplinary approach to any new venture in the Arctic.
