Dean Goettrer and Shirly Goettrer served in the Peace Corps in Colombia from 1965-1968, Guy Satterly served in the Peace Corps in India in 1966, and Tony Gasparo serving in the Dominican Republic in 1962. There are approximately 45 former Peace Corps members in Fairbanks. How the Peace got started during the Kennedy administration. How they each got their training and assignments. Problems with training, people sent on assignments for which they were not necessarily qualified. People with agricultural backgrounds were sent to teach agriculture. A change in emphasis of Peace Corps happened with a change in U.S. politics and administration.
